Pepsi: Beats of the Beautiful Game
Santigold
Santigold (born Santi White) is a musician, songwriter and producer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States who formerly went under the stage name Santogold. She is perhaps best known for the song "L.E.S. Artistes" which became a hit in the UK and on American alternative radio. White was originally the lead singer of Philadelphia-based punk rock band Stiffed, but while in the band, she was offered a solo contract. Working with fellow Stiffed member John Hill as co-producer, Santigold creates bombastic, bass-oriented songs that fuse punk, reggae, grime, and indie rock with electro. Tribal island rhythms merge with flavorful digital chirps and blips, culminating in an original sound that is comparable to M.I.A. but draws from too many other influences to be considered just another M.I.A. knockoff. Her debut album, Santigold, was released in April 2008 on Downtown Records.
