Geoffrey Royce Rojas was born on May 11, 1989, in the Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City. His parents were both from the Dominican Republic, which explains to a large extent the affinity Prince Royce developed towards Bachata music from a very early age. While his father used to work as a taxi driver in the Big Apple, his mother was working at a beauty salon.
As any kid from the Bronx, Prince Royce grew up listening to Hip-Hop, Pop and R&B. However, he was also exposed to lots of Bachata. When he was only 13 years old, he decided to pursue his own musical dream so he started to write poems and songs. His initial interest was directed towards Hip-Hop and R&B. However, when he was asked to sing Bachata, he realized that genre offered the perfect path to accomplish his musical aspirations.
