Brooklyn-based vocalist Kirsten Price is a singer's singer, and her sexy, ferocious, and soulful vocals brim with passion and attitude. Born in London, Price grew up singing in various groups and choirs, finally moving to New York City a week before the September 11, 2001, disaster took place. Studying music by day and teaching piano by night, she did some demo and commercial work before hooking up with producer Frederick Sargolini, and the pair tracked several songs toward an album project. Signing with Sony, Price cut additional material with Raphael Saadiq and Danny Saber, and the album was completed. Label delays and snafus, however, meant Price took back the masters and decided to release the completed album on her own. The fiery and impressive Guts & Garbage finally appeared in 2008. Two years later, Price released her second disc, Brixton To Brooklyn, which highlighted not only her talents as a songwriter, but also as a producer.
