J. Phlip

J. Phlip

In a male-dominated industry, it’s hard to find girl DJs who are as down to earth and talented as J. Phlip (pronounced J Flip; real name Jessica Phillipe). Hailing from the Midwest and a recent addition to the famous Dirtybird crew, J. Phlip’s debut record Rumble Rumble was released in 2008. This prolific DJ also has remixes coming out on Dotbeep and Alland Byallo’s Nightlight label. Though she is new to the production game, J.Phlip has been a pivotal part of Chicago’s electronic music community for many years. In 2005, she won BPM’s ‘Beauty and the Beats’ competition, leading to a tour with DJ Rap, Collette, and Reid Speed. Soon after her relocation to San Francisco in 2007, J.Phlip secured a residency at San Francisco’s infamous Endup nightclub. Blending the sounds of house and showing off her audio engineering skills, there’s no way one can ignore her original beats that radiate energy and innovation.
