Al Peco

Al Peco

Born in the early 80s to Ivry sur Seine, Kanoute Yamadou aka Al Peco spent the first 10 years of his life in Grigny Center. After his family returned to Mali, he began writing rap lyrics with his friend, Simpson. In 1996, he joined the undergroup group "rage". In 1998, they released the song "Votemania", encouraging young people to vote in Mali, in collaboration with Naini Diabate, This propelled the group to national prominence, with high rotation on music video ORTM and all national radio stations. A series of concerts alongside Koffi Olomide, Khaled, Penny Penny, and Positive Black Soul followed. In 2000-2001, the album Night and Day was reissued in France after success in Africa. The group then disbanded for academic reasons. After receiving his MA in Economics and Management, Al Peco released the street cd Bled Hard Concept in April 2004, which resulted in Al Peco being listed as independent revelation of the year. Al Peco signed to the prestigious label Naive and released his first album, ColonizaSon, in June 2008.
